Alopecurus aequalis Sobol.
characteristics
This grass grows in a variety of habitats and its appearance may vary. Fibrous roots produce erect stems growing in bunches. Leaves tend to be short. Both leaves and stems are glaucous (they appear to be lightly dusted). Seed head is cylinder shaped. Flower colour(s) vary from white to yellow to bright orange. Wind pollinated flowers are hermaphrodite (both male and female organs). Some sources list this plant as an annual, which is the way it seems to grow here. Seems to reseed readily but appears randomly, rarely in the same spot twice.
